What is going on in the Brazilian Amazon? How do Brazilians see this situation and how did it come to this? In this presentation, aided by Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Sì, by some science and personal experience, I will share some perspectives and ideas on how each and every one of us can do something for the global environment and how a contemplation can reach as far as the Brazilian Amazon to help heal the rainforest, its people, and the world.

I was born in a typical intellectual middle-class family in São Paulo, Brazil. In the 1970s, my father began to work at one of Brazil’s first environmental agencies, so the environment was a common theme in my life since my early childhood, long before the word was familiar in conversations throughout the country. As a translator and conference interpreter, I visited the Amazon region twice and have translated and edited many books, academic papers and conference talks on environmental issues. In 2002 I discovered Christian meditation and have been a meditator ever since. I have also been Laurence Freeman’s main translator in Brazil for the past 16 years. I currently live in Rio de Janeiro.
